What makes Calçotada de Valls special

A good calçotada begins long before the first bite: in the smell of the firewood, in the conversation while the calçots are roasted and in that moment of putting on the bib and forgetting about the rush. The Gran Festa takes that ritual to the streets. Come to eat, of course, but also to walk, browse and share the day.

If it's your first time, the idea is simple: remove the burnt outer layer of the calçot, dip the tender part in sauce and put it in your mouth. It is worth knowing the product before sitting down at the table: in our Calçot de Valls guide we explain its link with the territory, and in recipes and sauces you will find how to bring the experience home.

Programme 2027: what is announced

The preview for the 45th edition includes cooking demonstrations, a market, a public tasting, and the growing, sauce-making and calçot-eating competitions. Watch the growers' work, learn about the sauce or enjoy the atmosphere around the competitions.

For the most popular competition, check out our guide to the calçot-eating contest, with its history and list of winners.

Status as of 27 October 2026: the 2027 date and poster are confirmed. The Chamber of Commerce presentation leaves the detailed programme to be announced. The festival homepage combines the new announcement with material from previous years, so check times and venues again before planning your day.

Tickets and tasting: plan your meal

The festival homepage announces €15 for the tasting ticket on 31 January 2027, with sale from 10 a.m. at the Town Hall, the Institut d’Estudis Vallencs and the Pati.

Before buying, check the conditions and what the tasting pack includes: the image accompanying this announcement still refers to 2026. Check ticket information ↗

Think about how you would like to eat. The public tasting fits a day spent exploring the streets. For a sit-down meal with time to linger afterwards, book ahead using our calçotada restaurant guide. Confirm menu and availability directly with the establishment.

Essentials: Plaça de l’Oli and Magatzem del Vermut

Plaça de l'Oli is an absolute must on your itinerary. Make room between the calçots and the competitions: walk through the historic centre, look around you and also enjoy the Valls that is discovered without a schedule in hand. The festival is worth a visit with time for its squares and shops.

Vermouth, at Magatzem

Our essential stop for an aperitif is the Magatzem del Vermut, in the Carrer de la Peixateria, 19, around Plaça de l’Oli. A Montseta vermouth, something to snack on and a bit of conversation: write it down as one of those small plans that round out a getaway.

Make time for a vermouth, without fail; fit it around the activities you want to see. If you are staying for the weekend, a Saturday visit is a lovely way to start exploring Valls.

To plan the stop: Magatzem's published regular hours show it as closed on Sundays. Check whether it will open specially on 31 January and confirm availability before going: 605 671 075.

A route to savor Valls without rushing

Here is our suggested walk. Adapt it to the confirmed event times and your lunch booking.

  1. Start with the Pati. Situate yourself, consult the information of the day and decide which activities you want to prioritize. If you're interested in a contest, organise the other stops around their schedule.
  2. Walk through the centre and Plaça del Blat. Take advantage of the walk to discover the old town. Leave room to stop where you want and to follow the instructions of the organisation.
  3. Plaça de l’Oli and vermouth. Put the square on the map and, with the opening confirmed, make the stop at Magatzem del Vermut. It's time to sit down, have a bite to eat and talk.
  4. Calçots and time to linger. Continue to the tasting space indicated in the programme or to the reserved restaurant. Avoid fitting in too many plans: a calçotada takes time.

How to get there and where to park

By car: allow plenty of time to arrive and check access routes and parking. Do not expect to park beside each activity; explore the centre on foot and follow signs for road closures.

By public transport: the Valls tourism guide lists the town's station on the R13 train line and bus connections. Check outward and return times for that Sunday directly with the operator, especially if you plan to stay for lunch.

Tips to enjoy the day

  • Comfortable clothing and a warm layer. You will spend part of the day on the street in the middle of January; Check the forecast before leaving.
  • Comfortable walking shoes and your hands free. Bring what you need, napkins or wipes and a bag to collect your waste.
  • Leave extra time if you are coming with children. Alternate walks and breaks, agree on a meeting point and avoid depending on a rigid itinerary.
  • Decide where to eat before you arrive. Reserve a restaurant if you want a table and check how the tasting works if you prefer to stay on the street.
  • Check the latest information. Check the programme, transportation and opening of the Magatzem close to the date.
