Adrià Wegrzyn's calçots record: what the 5,825 grams mean

The 310 calçots of Adrià Wegrzyn are part of Valls' memory. But the decisive figure of that 2018 performance was another: 5,825 grams. Reading the two measurements together allows us to understand the dimension of the record and avoids common confusion when comparing results from different years.

28 January 2018: an exceptional day

The ACN report published by Europa Press Catalunya said that Wegrzyn beat his own 2014 record. That Sunday, he ate 310 calçots weighing about 5.8 kilos during the 45-minute contest. His father, Constantino Wegrzyn, came second, followed by Carlos Fontecha in third.

Counting pieces is not equivalent to weighing what is consumed

Sorting by the number of calçots alone gives a different ranking from the contest's official results. When reading a chart, check whether it shows grams or individual calçots: the two measures answer different questions.

The previous record and its continuity in the archive

In its 2026 preview, Diari de Tarragona still identified the 2018 performance as the contest record. The official winners' list checked in October retains the precise figure: 5,825 grams.

Here we talk about the record of the Valls contest, without attributing it a world certification. A future report will allow us to know when that reference is exceeded and update the story with the new result.

How to follow the history of the contest

Explore the winners' list and the explanation of net weight in our contest guide. The annual festival pages place each result alongside that year's programme.

Separating chronicles, programmes and results helps preserve context: a date can explain when the festival was celebrated; a table, who won; and a chronicle, how it was lived. None of these pieces replace the others.
